Alabama REALTORS® Foundation To Aid in Disaster Relief Efforts in California, Colorado and Kentucky
March 1, 2022
The Alabama REALTORS® Foundation recently made donations to the Kentucky Association of REALTORS® for disaster relief in response to the deadly outbreak of tornadoes this past December, and donations to the California and Colorado Associations of REALTORS® in light of the unprecedented wildfires in those states.
Starting on December 10, at least 59 twisters barreled through 10 states, one of which caused a path of destruction of more than 165 miles. For Kentucky, this collection of tornadoes was the most destructive in the state’s history and was approved for emergency declaration by President Joe Biden. These storms accounted for 71 deaths and the destruction of more than 15,000 buildings.
On the West Coast, wildfires in California throughout 2021 burned nearly 7.7 million acres due to a historic drought and record-breaking heatwaves and cost more than $4.4 billion to fight. Colorado also saw its state’s most destructive wildfire in history in December 2021, leaving nearly 1,100 homes and structures destroyed and two dead.
“The Alabama REALTORS® Foundation is proud to help our friends, REALTOR® members, and their communities in other parts of the country who have been affected by devastating natural disasters,” said Alabama REALTORS® Foundation Chair Shawn Reeves. “Our thoughts and prayers are with all who are working to rebuild during this time and to the families of those whose lives were lost during recent events.”
The Alabama REALTORS® Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit subsidiary of the Alabama Association of REALTORS® (AAR) that provides relief to victims of natural disasters; provides benevolence assistance to AAR members; and provides post-secondary education scholarships to children and grandchildren of AAR members.
