2022 David D. Roberts Award Recipient: Shawn Reeves
December 1, 2022
Past Alabama Association of REALTORS® President Shawn Reeves embarked on her real estate leadership path by first volunteering with her local Wiregrass Board of REALTORS® right after she gained her license 20 years ago. Since then, it would be difficult to find a leadership role in which she hasn’t served and excelled.
Reeves’ colleagues describe her as “honest, fair, and ethical with strong values, a deep worth ethic, and a caring heart.” Her body of leadership activities combined with her professional and personal reputation, led to Reeves’ selection for AAR’s 2022 David D. Roberts Award.
Given in honor of David D. Roberts, Sr., a distinguished Alabama REALTOR® who served as president of the National Association of REALTORS® in 1985, the award recognizes the REALTOR® who has contributed greatly to Alabama REALTORS®, National Association of REALTORS®, and his or her local board/association over a period of at least 20 years.
Reeves was shocked to learn she had been selected for the award. “I did not know I was nominated, and I was headed to Texas to see my dad for his birthday. I didn’t even go to convention because I was leaving the next day. Suddenly, my phone started blowing up with text messages as members congratulated me because my cell phone number on was the screen at convention. That’s how I found out.”
Over the years, locally, Reeves chaired committees and served on the executive committee, moving up the line to become president of her local association in 2009. Currently, she serves on her local ARPAC committee and the professional standards committee and plays a pivotal role in both the annual Blood Drive and the Salvation Army Bell Ringing.
On the state level, Reeves embraced every leadership role with enthusiasm and fervor. In 2015, she was elected AAR President. Two months prior to her installation, Reeves faced the hiring of an interim CEO and spearheaded a search for a permanent CEO while fulfilling her duties as state president and running a successful real estate career at home.
Reeves served as first chair of the Alabama REALTOR Foundation (previously the REALTOR Relief Fund). Under her leadership, the program was reorganized into three parts which make up the current Foundation: 1. Disaster Relief helping REALTORS® and communities affected by a natural disaster; 2. The Benevolent Fund awarding grants to REALTORS® who are sick or experiencing a hardship; and 3. a REALTOR® Scholarship Fund, awarding scholarships to REALTORS®, their children, or their grandchildren. She is also a 2008 graduate of Leadership AAR.
At Century 21 Regency Realty, Reeves mentors new agents and is always eager to share her knowledge and discipline with her colleagues. She consistently earns Top Lister and/or Seller each month or quarter and is always a top producer for the year bringing in some of the highest awards from Century 21 corporate.
As a member of Highpointe Church’s “The Dream Team,” Reeves and other team members are the face of the church as they greet attendees at services, lead connect groups, hold bible studies, and make people feel welcome.
“I feel like so many other people deserve this award more than me,” said Reeves. “It takes so many people to make our association work. Jeremy Walker is wonderful along with the whole executive committee and the staff. They make everyone in a leadership role look good.”
