Slade McElroy: 2023 Alabama REALTOR® of the Year
October 31, 2023
Slade McElroy knows who can keep a secret: his wife, Kim, and his local REALTORS® association. The Montgomery REALTORS® and past Alabama Association of REALTORS® president, described being “absolutely surprised” when he was announced as AAR’s 2023 Alabama REALTOR® of the Year at the recent Annual Conference in Gulf Shores. “I didn't even know my local association had nominated me.”
The REALTOR® of the Year Award recognizes an AAR member who demonstrates passion for community service and embodies the REALTOR® spirit through service at the local, state and national levels.
“I am truly honored and humbled to be selected for this prestigious designation,” said McElroy. “To be recognized by my REALTOR® peers for my involvement in my local, state and national associations – along with my involvement in my community – inspires me to do even more.”
McElroy, an associate broker with Keller Williams Realty in Montgomery, has extensive involvement in local, state, and national REALTOR® organizations. In his nomination, McElroy was described as leading by example and striving to do what is best for the organization and its members. He always promotes both real estate and REALTORS®. In addition to serving as AAR president, McElroy served as a regional vice president, state director, and has been an ARPAC investor since 1999. He served on AAR’s executive committee, foundation, budget task force, audit task force, and is a member of the 2011 Leadership AAR class. Among his local service, McElroy was elected Montgomery Area Association of REALTORS® president and served on the MAAR Board of Directors, Professional Standards Committee, and as MLS president. Nationally, he served on the National Association of REALTORS® Risk Management Issues Committee and attends NAR conventions.
A commitment to his community led McElroy to coach youth baseball for 27 years and serve on the board of Directors for the Southeast YMCA in Montgomery. He also taught Sunday School for more than 15 years.
In describing McElroy’s approach toward life, his local association said, “He does the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.” That complements his own philosophy.
“My guiding principle in real estate and life is simple, treat people the way you want to be treated.” But, he added, “Don’t take yourself too seriously.”
