Alabama REALTORS® Board of Directors Meeting Recap

The 2024 Alabama REALTORS® Board of Directors met on Thursday, September 12th at the Alabama REALTORS® Building in Montgomery. The Board reviewed the 2025 budget, considered an increase in dues to keep up with ongoing inflation, considered governance proposals, discussed economic trends affecting members’ businesses, received legal updates regarding the implementation of NAR’s rule practice changes, and conducted other Association business. A summary of the action can be found below:
- 2025 Budget: The Board of Directors reviewed and approved the 2025 Budget.
- Dues: The Board of Directors approved a 3% ($7) increase in dues to support the growth of AAR's Legal, Advocacy, and Economic Development efforts and continue to offset the effect of inflation.
- Sunsetting Association Programs and Services: The Board of Directors approved a strategic policy that establishes the Legal Forms Advisory Task Force and Legal Forms Instructors, while sunsetting the Leadership AAR Program, GRI Task Force, and Realhealth Programs. Additionally, GRI courses will transition to an online format. These changes aim to strengthen AAR’s core services in advocacy, legal expertise, and economic development, positioning AAR as the premier resource for legal developments impacting real estate in Alabama.
- Blue Sky Sessions: The Board of Directors approved a policy to provide a structured yet flexible framework to encourage creative and strategic thinking at the end of board meetings, helping the organization to stay innovative and forward-looking.
- Parliamentary Rules: The Board of Directors approved a policy to create a simplified set of parliamentary rules for governing AAR meetings. These new guidelines are designed to enhance clarity and transparency, ensuring all members are on an equal footing during discussions and decision-making.
- Executive Committee: The Board of Directors has approved updates to the qualifications for the role of Secretary, now requiring additional leadership and management experience. Further revisions have been made to the job descriptions, responsibilities, and qualifications of all Executive Committee members to ensure greater consistency and clarity.
- NAR Update and Legal Report: The Board received a legal report regarding the implementation of NAR’s rule practice changes, Alabama legal developments, statewide legal forms, and external legal challenges.
- Annual Conference: Registration for Annual Conference 2024 is still open! The conference will be held on October 15–17, 2024 at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear with keynote speaker Joan Lunden for the Awards and Installation Dinner.
- Alabama REALTORS® Foundation Scholarship – The Alabama REALTORS® Foundation Education Scholarship is open for applications! Applications for the Fall 2025 school year are open now through December 31, 2024. If you know of a member with an eligible child or grandchild, please be sure you share the information with them.
