Membership Meeting Recap

On October 30, 2024, Alabama REALTORS® hosted a membership meeting following its Board of Directors Meeting to consider several governance proposals from the Governance and Election Presidential Advisory Group (PAG). The members in attendance received a legal update and conducted the business of the Association. The following motions were passed:
Motion 1 - Articles of Incorporation: This update aligned AAR’s Articles of Incorporation, originally filed in 1949 and last updated in 1969, with the latest state laws, including the 2023 updates to the Non-Profit Statute and the 2024 creation of the Statewide Trade Association Act. It modernizes outdated language, such as removing references to a male-only organization, and reflects current practices without altering operations.
Motion 2 - Article V: This update clarified policies for filling office vacancies and introduces a process for timely replacements to minimize disruption to the Association during a vacancy in office.
Motion 3 - Article IX: This revision updated AAR’s broad election policies in the bylaws and complemented more detailed policies in the Association’s policies including updated election timelines, candidate qualifications, background checks, campaign rules, and a process for handling complaints and violations.
Motion 4 - Articles IV, XVI, XVII, XIX: These updates improved clarity and understanding across multiple sections of the Bylaws.
