Timothy Mills: 2024 Robert Jemison Award Recipient
December 10, 2024
At the heart of the annual Robert Jemison Award, given in honor of Robert Jemison, the first Alabama REALTOR® to serve as president of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), is service.
That mentality — being of service to others — is a cornerstone of this year’s recipient, Timothy Mills', life and business.
Mills serves his community and profession at the local, state and national level. He’s the president of the Mobile Area Association of REALTORS®. He’s on the Alabama REALTORS® Board of Directors. He serves NAR in numerous capacities. Over the years, he’s frequently been called upon to serve on various committees and to represent the industry as a trusted spokesperson.
For Mills, giving back is a meaningful way to be involved, maintain excellence in his everyday practice and propel the industry forward in a positive way.
“Serving allows me to stay at the forefront of industry trends and policies, which helps me provide the best possible service to my clients. By sharing what I’ve learned and clearing up any misconceptions, I can build trust and create stronger connections with those I work with,” he said. “It’s also a chance to advocate for the needs of my community and ensure the real estate industry continues to grow in ways that benefit everyone.”
The award recognition came as a shock to Mills at first — but then as a reminder of the impact helping others can have, whether we realize it or not.
“When I heard my name, I was completely caught off guard. I thought they must have made a mistake,” he said. “As it started to sink in, I felt a rush of emotions. It was incredibly humbling to realize people notice and appreciate others’ efforts — especially when I wasn’t expecting it.”
Mills’ tenure of service has taught him countless lessons and given him many opportunities to grow and overcome challenges. Throughout his many experiences, he’s come back to one central focus: that his commitment to serving others is about making a lasting impact that benefits all.
“Being able to contribute to meaningful change has been both humbling and inspiring,” he said. “Serving in these various roles has given me the chance to make a tangible difference, whether it was shaping policies, advocating for the community or working alongside a dedicated team.”
