When Jamie Sergen joined the Lee County Association of REALTORS® 21 years ago, it was housed in a 900-square-foot building, less than 200 members were active, and she was the only staff member.

Fast forward to today, and the association is located in a spacious, modern building built in 2008, boasts a membership roster that has grown an impressive 400%, and employs three full-time staffers. 

“Seeing how the association has grown over the last 20 years has been wonderful,” Sergen said. “From our size to technological advances to changes in the industry, experiencing this evolution has been very rewarding.”

In her role as Association Executive, Sergen has tackled the daily challenges of ensuring agents have the tools and support they need to succeed. Whether troubleshooting issues, implementing new programs, or simply administering the MLS system, she has served as a go-to resource for the association for many years.

Every day has been different for Sergen, and that variety is what she has enjoyed about it.

“There are so many aspects to my job, and every day there’s a lot happening,” she said. “It’s hard to really summarize all that I do. Some days you come in, and your desk is clean, and by the end of the day, you can’t even see your desk — but I like it that way.”

While her role, the association, and the real estate industry have all changed significantly over the last two decades, one thing has remained constant: Sergen’s genuine love for the people she has worked with.

“What I’ve loved most about my position is that I’ve gotten to meet and really get to know some of the best people I’ve ever met,” she said. “In Lee County, we have some truly wonderful agents. I’ve had the privilege of building relationships with so many incredible individuals who have made meaningful contributions to our association.”

As she closes the professional chapter of her life at the end of the year, Sergen has a lot to look forward to in retirement. Five grandchildren — with another on the way — a lake house, travel aspirations and time with loved ones will keep her calendar full.

“I have a feeling I’ll be just as busy,” she joked. “It’s a new chapter for me, and I have no idea what’s in store, but I’m looking forward to it.”
