For many REALTORS®, giving back is a cornerstone of their business because supporting neighbors and investing in the communities where they live and work are key aspects of what real estate professionals do.

But Emmy Sorrells, the 2024 Mickey Phillips REALTORS® for Children award recipient, believes that giving back is more than a priority — it’s a way to build a better tomorrow. Her commitment to helping those in need today is matched by her dedication to empowering the leaders of the future.

“Giving back to children is one of the most impactful ways to invest in our future,” Sorrells said. “For me, it’s personal — I believe every child deserves opportunities to grow, dream and succeed, regardless of their circumstances. Whether it’s access to education, a safe environment, or simply knowing someone cares, supporting children creates a ripple effect that strengthens families and neighborhoods for generations.”

Sorrells is board chair for the Boys & Girls Club of East Alabama, served as PTO president throughout Auburn City Schools, worked with the FACES Foundation as a grant reader awarding grants for innovative classroom programs and field trips, and supported the Junior League of Lee County with book and literacy drives. Her involvement has included reading with local schoolchildren who need extra enrichment.

She also participates in local initiatives to support underprivileged youth, including mentoring programs, fundraising for school supplies and delivering backpacks to families experiencing food insecurity.

“As REALTORS®, we don’t just sell homes — we help create vibrant, thriving communities where families can build their lives,” Sorrells said. “By focusing on children, we invest in the most vulnerable yet impactful members of our society. It reminds us that our work goes beyond transactions — it’s about relationships and positive change.”

Sorrells described being honored with the Mickey Phillips Award as a moment that deepened her commitment to supporting youth.

“Mickey Phillips’ legacy of selflessness and dedication to the well-being of children is truly inspiring, and being recognized for this work feels like a validation of my passion for giving back,” she said. “It’s a reminder that every small effort can make a big difference. More than anything, it motivates me to continue advocating for children and finding new ways to serve my community.”
